Solidoodle 2
Current setup
- Solidoodle 2 Pro
- MKS GEN V1.4 controller
- Marlin firmware, custom configuration.
- Pololu DRV8825 stepper motor drivers
- Removed the top cover – need to find a way to make this fit with the Y-axis direct-drive mod and cable chain in place.
- Z-axis "Nut-hugger" Z-wobble prevention mod (soon to be replaced with a proper trapezoidal leadscrew)
- Bed alignment thumbscrews with M4 nuts – massively simplifies bed levelling
- Lawsy carriage kit with LM8UU linear bearings and extruder fan duct (with 12V 30x30x10mm fan)
- Lawsy-Wardjr-Mdroman extruder mount – replaces the Solidoodle “jigsaw”. Variant of the Lawsy Mk5 mount.
- E3D v6 all-metal hotend, 1.75mm direct-feed
- E3D HobbGoblin, 5mm ID extruder drive gear
- Lawsy lowered Z-screw to account for the height of the E3D extruder
- Later replaced with a machined aluminium Z-screw
- Keenovo 120W silicone bed heater element with internal thermistor
- Y-axis bearing support with SFL686ZZ flanged bearing and Y-axis direct-drive mod (3D model on Thingiverse)
- Massively reduces Y-axis binding (especially after the bushings have started to wear)
- Rear spool holder by Tarwin
- Next additions:
- Belt clamps to reduce the risk of the Y-belt breaking at the screw-holes

I replaced the stock Y-axis motor with one from WeDo3DPrinting when I fitted the direct-drive mod. I did the same with the X-axis motor when I replaced the carriage. This means the current motor setup is:

- Z-axis: Precision Maker MTR-N17-48, NEMA-17. 1.8-degree (200 step). 3.4V 1.7A, 520 mN.m
Board configuration
Microstepping
The microstep jumpers are located under the driver boards. See this for a photo.
Installing a jumper sets the given mode line high. Removing it sets the mode line low.
Microstep settings with the DRV8825 drivers:
